I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! It feels good to be back! I hit my one year anniversary over here on WordPress and decided around the holidays to take a small break from blogging. Well, actually, it was sort of forced. Buggy broke my beloved camera, so I was unable to update you all on the absolutely adorable projects I’ve been working on. Believe me though, they’ve been good! Something about Christmas + blogging just made my brain explode. I guess if I really want to make it in the blogging world though, I need to get past that overwhelmed feeling. Oh well. Give me another year or so I guess 🙂
As I said before, I’ve been working on some amazing projects for Buggy’s room. As soon as we replace our camera {next month = hello tax refund!}, I’ll post all about it. I’m also really excited to share with you all about a quilt I recently started working on. Any quilters out there can join me as a quilt along. It’s also a great quilt to start if you’ve never quilted before.
Things have been fairly quiet around here for the past few weeks. We had one possible birthmother match pop up right before the new year. It was the most promising situation we’ve been presented so far. It came down to the mother choosing between us and one other family, and she chose the other family. We have kitties and she has a child with asthma. She was afraid that if this baby has asthma, cats could aggravate his/her condition. I understand of course, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing.
One positive thing that came out of this rejection was a great conversation I had with our adoption coordinator. First off, let me say how much I love her! She’s awesome. But that night, she went above and beyond the normal call of duty. She called me at 9:30 that night to let me know that the mom had made her decision and it wasn’t us, but then she stayed on the phone with me for another hour or so just chatting. She answered all of my questions about the other families in the program, the types of birthmoms they have coming in right now, and how good our chances are of being picked. Evidently, we’re one of the most open families in the program when it comes to the health of the baby or the race of the baby. That makes me feel great! She said that we’re highly eligible and highly desirable, and really it just comes down to God’s timing. {No kidding!} She’s also asked me to create a list of children’s books, movies, and television shows that present the topic of adoption in a child-friendly manner to explain adoption to adopted kiddos and their siblings. She’s going to put my list on their newly updated agency website as a free resource for parents and anyone considering adoption. So that’s kind of exciting! As soon as my list is perfected, I’ll post it on here as well.
So, unfortunately, no new baby news to report. Well, not for us anyway… Any day now I will be an aunt for the first time! I’m so excited about the idea of having a niece and I can’t wait to see her sweet face.
I’m also happy to report that my OCD and anxiety is more under control than it has been in years. You may remember my post about my struggles with anxiety, and I’m happy to say that therapy is helping! I haven’t had a panic attack in weeks, and the holidays went extremely smoothly for my stress levels. I’m so glad I decided to step up and make a change in my life. I want to encourage anyone out there who may be struggling with something similar {or any form of depression or addiction} to seek help! It can change your life.
Thank you for letting me catch you all up on the past few weeks, and for giving me the opportunity to take a short break. I’m so glad to be back now. I’ve missed the blog world! Also, thank you for continuing to read out there. I’ve been so blessed in the past month with new blog followers and new readers, and I continue to receive emails from sweet moms looking for advice on various topics. You’ve lured me back into the writing world and I’m happy to be here. I won’t let you down 🙂
Blessings,
Kat
