I’m Not Perfect

Honesty seems to be the theme of the week. Molly over at Knocked Up Knocked Over has inspired me to share my own less-than-perfect image with my own readers.

Do you sometimes wish that every blog you read and drool over has a post titled “I’m Not Perfect”? I do. I’m a “blog stalker,” meaning I love finding beautiful new blogs with interesting content, beautiful pictures, or creative ideas. The blogs that draw me in tend to focus on motherhood, cooking, fun things to do with kids, or living a Christ-centered life. I look for encouragement, inspiration, ideas, and meals. What a Week

…Whew. Ever have one of those weeks that you wish you’d had a forewarning about? Maybe a little disclaimer on Sunday would have been helpful. Something like, “Kat, this is future Kat. This week is really going to suck. If you’d like to, you can just lock yourself in your room and not come out again until next Sunday. Your choice.” Continue reading

Simplify Your Life: Save Money by Freezing Fresh Foods

I have been studying the Proverbs 31 homemaker lately, and one verse stuck in my mind in relation to freezing foods and preparing for future months: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Proverbs 31:25. I particularly thought of that second half of the verse, “she can laugh at the days to come,” because she is prepared! So, today’s simplify your life is about preparing your food for the future months (and saving money in the process): Continue reading

World Breastfeeding Week: Nursing the Adopted Baby

This Sunday, instead of an edition of “Simplify Your Life,” I’ll be speaking on the subject of breastfeeding because this week is World Breastfeeding Week.

I’m tackling a rather controversial topic this morning. Sometimes I think, “Why in the world is the idea of nursing an adopted baby controversial?” Well, for several reasons. Continue reading

Simplify Your Life: Ready for Baby

Our Simple Life Story

For quite some time now, I’ve thought about starting a series on here regarding the joy that can be found when one simplifies their life. Three years ago, Travis and I fell on severe financial hardships and were forced to reconsider our concept of happiness and satisfaction. During this humbling process where we went from a three bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment, I believe we found true happiness. Continue reading

First Tutorial- DIY Dresser

Hey everybody,

I’ve finally added a tutorial to my Tutorials page! Travis and I refinished a dresser for Bug’s room since he’ll be sharing with his baby sister. We needed to make more room in there since a new person will be added to the room {soon we hope}, so we got rid of the old changing table that was falling apart and moved the tall and bulky dresser he was using down into my sewing room.

The dresser we found was exactly what we were looking for! Three drawers on one side for Bug’s clothes, three on the other for baby sister’s, and then three hidden in the middle for diapers and accessories that I really was never thrilled about having out in the open. It was also just the perfect height for a changing table.

Check it out!

Idiot’s Guide to Cloth Diapering

Before I begin this post, I want to go ahead and link to Knocked Up Knocked Over’s post on cloth diapering. Her friend Katie, an avid CDer {that’s the forum lingo there} wrote a guest post about cloth diapering that is fantastic for absolute cloth diapering idiots like me. Continue reading

Social Worker Visit

I can’t write much, because we need to go grocery shopping. {We usually go on Sunday afternoons, but we were cleaning like crazy people yesterday so now our house is empty and Little is eyeing the cat with hunger.} But I’ll say this: Continue reading

Family Vacation

It’s vacation picture time!

I’m sorry I’ve been MIA for the past week. We got back into town and a new fire was lit for us to finish the paperwork for our home study. The average family takes anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to finish their home study paperwork. Apparently not us. We officially turned in our last bit of paperwork this week. I’m SO relieved. We have one more letter of reference coming in before they can schedule our home visit. For now I’m relaxed for the first time in a month. I know I’ll get nervous again once they schedule the visit, but I am choosing not to think about all of that right now. Continue reading

Mommy’s Travel List

Traveling for long plane or car rides with young children is TORTUROUS… unless you come prepared. And what do smart moms do? They plan ahead.

I thought I’d share with you the bag of goodies that always goes with us for long car rides. It has the potential of entertaining my child for a few minutes (sometimes up to 30 minutes) at a time, and when used in rotation, they can hold his attention for a while. Continue reading
