I’m sorry it’s been so long! Can I share with you the boring details of why I haven’t blogged? …Nah, I’ll spare you. But on a positive note, I’m graduating in December with my bachelor’s degree in English!!!! All just a couple of years away from the big 3-0! WIN!

We’ve made it through our first week of Mommy School! I had no idea it would wear me out so much. I’m exhausted! I shared with you all the activities we did on Monday and Tuesday in my first Kitchen Table Classroom post. We practiced cutting with safety scissors, gluing, painting and coloring. We learned the names of the days of the week this week, talked about all of the great things God has made, and started memorizing Matthew 5:16. All in all, it’s been a great week. Continue reading
Yesterday was the first day of school for most area schools in our neck of the woods. Travis headed back bright and early to start marching practice. In some ways regarding our adoption journey, this summer felt like an eternity, but in other ways it seemed to fly by. One of the hardest things as a stay at home mom is figuring out how to balance household chores and spending time with your kids. It’s hard to not feel guilty when you’re still discovering how to maintain a balance, because in the beginning it’s going to be lopsided. There will be days {or weeks} where your house is unattended and you spend all of your time with your kiddos, and then there will be days or weeks where your house is absolutely spotless and your little one seems to be constantly entertaining himself or relying on the television for a playmate. I’ll be very honest. Being an at-home mom can sometimes be the most boring job on earth. It really can. It’s very difficult to work towards something day after day knowing that you won’t see the fruits of your labors for years to come. I have bad days where I just don’t want to do it. Any of it. The cleaning, the playing, the entertaining, the cooking, any of it. And so there are days where my house looks scary and my kiddo entertains himself. Feel free to read on, but I wanted to let you know I also updated our schedule since Little is older and I’m trying to keep him busier this fall. So here is our Fall 2012 Schedule!
I get asked from time to time about what our at-home schedule looks like. To be quite honest, creating one was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I’ve always gone to school, attended college, worked jobs, and relied heavily on teachers, professors, and supervisors who created schedules for me. One the hardest parts of transitioning from the working world to the at-home world is the schedule shift. Not only the schedule shift, but also the concept of creating a schedule entirely from scratch with no outside direction for the first time in your life. For me, at least, this was daunting.
