We’ve made it through our first week of Mommy School! I had no idea it would wear me out so much. I’m exhausted! I shared with you all the activities we did on Monday and Tuesday in my first Kitchen Table Classroom post. We practiced cutting with safety scissors, gluing, painting and coloring. We learned the names of the days of the week this week, talked about all of the great things God has made, and started memorizing Matthew 5:16. All in all, it’s been a great week. Continue reading

Kitchen Table Classroom: 1st Ed.
Yesterday was the first day of school for most area schools in our neck of the woods. Travis headed back bright and early to start marching practice. In some ways regarding our adoption journey, this summer felt like an eternity, but in other ways it seemed to fly by. I’ve been stock-piling ideas to try out with Buggy this fall for the past month or so. I wanted to start the week off on the right foot. Continue reading
My 101 Favorite Children’s Books
I LOVE books. And I particularly love children’s books. They’re beautifully illustrated, they create fantastical worlds in young readers’ minds, and they bring to life valuable life lessons in creative ways. Summer is an awesome time to take on a reading list with your kids, and I thought I’d help inspire you by sharing with you the children’s books that inspire me. Continue reading

DIY Window Shades
A couple of weeks ago, I took on a simple DIY project to make a window shade for Little’s bedroom window. I wanted a shade that would block out the sun during his nap, but one that looked custom and fit in with the colors of his room. Head on over to the DIY Tutorial page to see how I did it!
Blessings,
Kat

Painting Flower Pots
Yesterday we spent the morning doing a two-part project in honor of this week of Spring weather. I decided we should paint these tiny flower pots I found at the Dollar Tree store {3/$1} and then pick out a flower together from the nursery and plant it later this week. However, I stumbled on a cute idea on Pinterest that showed how to make little stamps out of bottle lids and foam stickers {which we have a drawer full of.} So we added that to our project. Fun with Shaving Cream
Little had a ball last week playing with shaving cream. I got the idea after I remembered my first grade teacher covering our desks with the soft white foam so we could “clean” our desks. I figured an activity involving shaving cream could clean the top of our dinner table at the very least. I had no idea it would be such a huge hit for him! Continue reading

DIY Sensory Tub {at very little cost!}
I don’t think I really understood the uses or need for a sensory tub, but I decided to look into it to find some explanations for why so many preschool teachers use these hands-on teaching tools. I learned that it really isn’t about “teaching” them something or making something, but more about simply giving their little hands the opportunity to experience different touches, textures, temperatures, and to flex those little finger muscles to prepare for writing. I was won over by the pure fun of it all, so I set out last night to put together my own sensory tub for Little Bug. Continue reading
