The number of hit TV shows over the years that have featured adoption plot lines is actually growing. Adoption, orphans, and foster care plot lines are no stranger to Hollywood. Combine these creative adoption stories with images of Hollywood stars showing off their real-life adopted children, and America gets a very strange idea of how adoption works and what it is. Different Feeling Kind of Day
Blah. I mentioned in my post about the ups and downs of the first month wait that some days are better than others. Some days are easier than others. Yesterday I was online looking up Halloween costumes for Little. He wants to be a dinosaur/dragon, so I’m trying to find something that looks like a not-creepy creature. I found a crocodile costume that might work for what he has in mind. I digress. Continue reading

One Month Waiting Check In
I thought since I’m going through this entire process start to finish with all of you, I would touch base with my readers once a month as we continue through the wait process to let everyone see the emotions I’m experiencing along the way. For many adoptive parents, the wait is the most dreaded part of the journey because we have nothing but negative warnings thrown at us about the wait. You already heard my mini rant about being labeled as desperate very early in the process in my post titled Are All Adoptive Parents Desperate? The post talks about the warnings of that desperateness that everyone inevitably says will set in. I’m trying to avoid that feeling as much as I can. Continue reading

Are All Adoptive Parents Desperate?
I’ve been chewing over the idea of this post for a week or so.
Over on my favorite adoption board, I posted something a week ago about the potential situations we might consider. For instance, we said that we will consider a baby expected to be born with a cleft lip or pallet. We will not consider a baby with Spina Bifida. The list goes on and on regarding what we will and will not consider. Continue reading

How to Build a Fabulous Adoption Profile Part 2
This is a continuation of yesterday’s post about building the perfect adoptive family profile. I’ll move forward from discussing pictures and get to the text in your profile. People learn in different ways. Some potential birthmoms are going to be drawn in by your captivating photos, while others are going to pour over every word you say, so make sure they both ROCK! How to Build a Fabulous Adoption Profile Part 1
Stop by and check out the newest activity idea for little ones in Something Together!
Early in the adoption process, part of me looked forward to this step with great anticipation, while another part of me dreaded this part more than others. I LOVE scrapbooking, so I chose to view this just as though I was building a scrapbooking page for my own pleasure. Continue reading

Guess What We Officially Are…
I have to be honest, I sat down about six times over the past two days to try and write a post for World Breastfeeding Week. However, there’s just too much excitement going on in our own lives for me to write about that, and I keep getting distracted. So instead, for a whole series of fantastically written and thought-provoking articles on breastfeeding, please stop by Knocked Up Knocked Over. Molly is a true “Lactavist,” and I admire her encouragement and support for nursing. I’m hoping to write an article soon about breastfeeding the adopted baby, but tonight I was just too distracted and I was about to burst, so I’ll say this instead:

Adoption Process Continues
Onward, ho!
I let you all know last Monday that our home study report was typed and done and ready for our review. Well, on Saturday we got the official hard copy of things along with a letter from our agency that read like a college acceptance letter: Continue reading

Home Study Report
We’re on a short family vacation with my brother and grandparents in Albuquerque, NM for the next couple of days. {I’ll add adorable pictures of Little at the botanical gardens and aquarium when we get home.}
However, I had to tell you all: I opened up my inbox today, just one week after our home visit, and you know what was there?? Our typed and completed home study report! Continue reading
